Product-led growth and enterprise sales
Find what is stopping the account
Breen Eitel, Co-Founder, GTM Align
A product can be used inside a large company without becoming a company-wide purchase. Usage gives you something to investigate. It does not establish purchase intent, a budget or a buyer ready to act.
In our founders' conversation, John Eitel described the sequence he looks for: a working product-led approach, the right customers entering it and evidence that their progress is stalling. Those observations frame his view of when sales support may help.
Start by testing what is stopping the account. The next step might belong with sales, product or support.
Ask what is blocking progress
Choose an account already using the product. Examine what the usage records and actual customer conversations support:
- Who is getting value, and how do you know?
- Where does adoption stop?
- What does the customer say is blocking progress?
- Who can help resolve it?
Keep observed facts separate from your explanation. An active user may understand the product well without owning a wider purchase. A deployment concern may need a product or support answer before a commercial discussion is useful.
Test whether sales support addresses the barrier
For that account, record the observed barrier, the person responsible for investigating it and the next action. State what you expect to learn and what evidence would change your view.
If the buyer needs help evaluating a broader deployment, a focused conversation may be useful. If the obstacle is unresolved product functionality, route it to someone who can assess that need. If the account has no reason to expand, record that rather than assuming more outreach will create one.
One account may warrant sales help without justifying an enterprise sales team. Check whether the need repeats across other relevant accounts, what work that support requires and whether the company has the capacity to provide it.
Carry the context into the next conversation
Give the receiving owner the relevant usage evidence, the customer's stated concern, what has already been promised and the agreed next step. Decide who updates the record when the account's circumstances change.
That gives the next person a starting point without requiring the customer to reconstruct every earlier conversation.
Start with what you are seeing
Bring an account example or recurring adoption barrier to a 30-minute GTM Diagnostic with Breen Eitel. We will examine the available evidence and discuss what deserves investigation or change next. If further work makes sense, we scope it separately.
